Why is nutrition important?
Making sure that your body receives all of the essential nutrients is an effective way to keep your body in good health.  Since all of us have different bodies, there are also different nutritional needs for us.  There are certain vitamins and minerals that women need and men do not and vice versa.  For example, if a woman is pregnant, or planning a pregnancy, there are vital nutritional requirements for the health of the baby.

There are also many diseases and disorders that can be prevented or delayed by ensuring that your body has the right nutrients.  And some supplements can help your body to heal quicker after being injured.  So as you can see, proper nutrition is extremely important to leading a healthy life.

Why would I go to a chiropractor for nutritional advice?
In earning their degrees, chiropractors study the complete body and all of its systems (i.e. neurological, digestive, reproductive, etc.).  This entails learning what is required in order to obtain the optimal performance out of each of these systems.

In fact, the education that medical doctors receive focuses more on curing existing sicknesses, while chiropractors are taught to focus on the prevention of these illnesses.  That is where nutrition comes in - by ensuring that your body is properly nourished, you can avoid the types of problems that would send you to a medical doctor in the first place.

I take a daily multivitamin, so I must be properly nourished, right?
Unfortunately, that is not the case.  Many products on the market are not all that they are cracked up to be.  There are multiple types of some vitamins and minerals and many products do not contain the type that is useful to your body.  For example, take calcium - while most products contain calcium carbonate, the human body cannot process this type of calcium and it just goes right through your system.  The type of calcium that the body needs is calcium citrate - a type of calcium that very few products on the market provide.  Further, depending on the method which these supplements are produced, many of the essential vitamins can lose their potency and thus become ineffective.
