What is Rehabilitation?
Rehabilitation is one part of the pie of chiropractic care.  It involves working together to restore the normal usage and/or structure to an injured body part by retraining that injured area to function normally once again.  Rehab (as it is commonly referred to) comes in only after the Doctor has worked with the patient to understand and diagnose an injury.

Rehab will usually consist of both treatment and the education necessary to help you obtain the maximum function out of your rehabilitation program.

Can you give me an example of a time when rehab would be necessary?
Sure.  Consider a patient that has sprained their ankle.  At first, it may be difficult for this person to walk or even stand up - this is when a rehabilitation program would be introduced.  The Doctor would work with the patient to gradually increase their range of motion and gain strength in their ankle through a number of safe, proven exercises and techniques.  With a cooperative effort, this patient should be back to their normal daily activities in a short period of time.

What are some exercises that a patient might be expected to perform?
This depends on a number of things.  The Doctor will look at the type of injury that the patient suffered.  Then the Doctor will create a custom program that takes into account all of the outstanding factors associated with that individual patient.  There are various exercises that may be utilized for different patients, even though their injuries may appear to be very similar.
